Over the weekend, more than 1,000 European Union citizens were evacuated from Sudan amid deadly fighting between rival army factions, according to the union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell.

Mr. Borell told journalists that the operation had been complicated but successful and that the EU ambassador to Khartoum was still in the country.

He stated that the EU bloc would continue to push for a political solution to the crisis, which could worsen and spread across the African continent.

Evacuations from Sudan’s capital have continued all night as fighting between the army and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Group (RSF) continues.

France, Germany, Canada, Spain, and Italy have all stated that their diplomatic staff has been relocated to safety.

According to the UN, over 400 people have been killed and thousands have been injured.
