Former National Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ray Nnaji, has accused Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, of allegedly hiring supporters for his official welcome into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview with Daily Post, Nnaji described the governor’s defection as a major political error, stating that although Mbah had every right to switch parties, the decision would eventually backfire.

According to him, “The governor only managed to rent a crowd. Those people who came were hired. He’s not grounded politically; his focus is on the elites and wealth, not the ordinary citizens.”

Nnaji also criticized the PDP’s national leadership for allowing widespread defections, blaming poor management and lack of decisive action for weakening the party’s grip across the country.

He further alleged that Mbah strategically left some loyalists behind in the PDP to maintain influence over the party’s structure in Enugu State — a plan he believes will not succeed.

“The PDP’s major problem is leadership failure. If the chairman had done his job well, these defections wouldn’t have happened. How many of those who left are being challenged in court? What actions have been taken to make them regret leaving?” Nnaji questioned.

He added, “We’re watching what unfolds in Enugu. The governor may think leaving remnants of loyalists behind gives him control, but it’s a huge mistake. How can that be an advantage? Look at Peter Obi — within months, he inspired millions of votes. It’s always the people who decide who wins.”
