The spokesperson of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council, Yunusa Tanko, emphasized that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is firmly committed to the party and has no intentions of leaving.

Amidst the leadership challenges and controversies that have surrounded the opposition party, including allegations against the National Chair, Julius Abure, supporters of Obi, known as ‘Obidients’, have urged him to consider forming a new party, pledging their allegiance to him.

Tanko, in a conversation with TheCable, clarified that Obi remains dedicated to the Labour Party and has not entertained thoughts of establishing a new political platform. Tanko highlighted Obi’s significant contributions to the party, underscoring his commitment to its growth and credibility.

Tanko affirmed, “At the moment, he is not contemplating leaving the Labour Party. His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, is trying to build a platform that accommodates everybody. There is no doubt he has added credibility and purposefulness to the Labour Party.”

Regarding potential mergers, Tanko emphasized Obi’s willingness to collaborate with like-minded individuals and groups dedicated to Nigeria’s progress and upliftment.

Tanko concluded, “The idea of Peter Obi is that we should all join forces with everybody who believes in rescuing Nigeria. If you believe in the mantra of a new Nigeria, you are welcome to join whichever movement His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, is doing.”
