The Member of Parliament for Asutifi South under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been released on bail by the police, as confirmed by Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer.
Gyamfi stated in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM that all accusations against Hon. Dauda are unfounded. According to him, Dauda was immediately granted bail after his arrest, emphasizing that Dauda was not present at the scene of the incident but was instead occupied with monitoring the registration process in his constituency.
Expressing condemnation over the arrest, Gyamfi urged the police to direct their efforts towards apprehending the actual perpetrators of the disturbance. He singled out a known individual associated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) named Anointing as a ringleader of the chaos and called for their arrest and prosecution.
The police had earlier stated that the MP was arrested in connection with a fracas at a registration center on May 11, 2024, resulting in one person being injured and currently undergoing treatment in the hospital. The police assured that they are diligently pursuing other suspects linked to the incident.
