Mamman Daura Hospitalized in London as Nation Mourns Buhari

The Vice President’s office has confirmed that Mamman Daura, a close relative of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, is currently receiving medical care in a London hospital. Daura, widely known as Buhari’s influential nephew, is said to be recuperating, though details about his condition remain private.

In a statement shared by Vice President Kashim Shettima’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, the VP’s recent visit to London wasn’t only to accompany the late President’s remains back to Nigeria—it also included a stop to check on Daura.

“The Vice President also visited the late President’s nephew, Malam Mamman Daura, who is recuperating in a London hospital,” the statement read.

President Buhari passed away in London at the age of 82 following a long illness. His remains are scheduled to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday for burial in Daura, Katsina State.

Meanwhile, in response to Buhari’s death, elder statesman and former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, released a sober message of reflection.

“Death strips away all privileges,” George stated. “It reminds us that no matter who we are—rich, poor, powerful, or unknown—we all end up in the same place.”

He cautioned against mocking the deceased, calling it un-African and spiritually inappropriate. “No matter our political or personal differences, mocking death is beneath us. Judgment is God’s alone,” he said.

George, who once worked closely with Buhari, urged Nigerians to reflect on the fragility of life. “Power, influence, money—it all fades. The only enduring authority is God’s,” he added.

As the nation prepares to lay a former leader to rest, both grief and introspection linger in the air.
