On Sunday, the 50th anniversary of the vehicle accident that claimed their lives, President Joe Biden paid a visit to the graves of his first wife and their infant daughter. The two went to mass at Saint Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church, where the burial lies, along with other Biden family members.

After the memorial service, Mr. Biden and First Lady Jill Biden delivered flowers to the graves of the late Neilia, 30, and Naomi, the president’s 13-month-old daughter. Shortly after Biden was elected to the Senate in 1972, the two perished in an automobile accident while en route to pick up a Christmas tree.

Beau and Hunter Biden, who were 4 and 3 years old respectively at the time of the tragedy, suffered injuries but lived. At the time of the collision, Mr. Biden wasn’t in the vehicle.

Maisy Biden, Mr. Biden’s granddaughter, was one of the other family members spotted at the Sunday funeral. She was observed carrying a wreath. Sunday’s event also included Hunter Biden, according to The Associated Press.

In 1977, Mr. Biden wed Jill Biden, the first lady. Ashley, one of their daughters, also attended the event, according to the AP.
