President Bola Tinubu has called on all politicians and stakeholders involved in the upcoming Edo State governorship election, scheduled for September 21, 2024, to uphold the democratic process and ensure peace throughout the exercise. He emphasized the importance of allowing the will of the people to determine the outcome.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President reaffirmed his trust in the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to carry out their duties impartially and neutrally during the election.
President Tinubu urged the candidates and political parties to respect the democratic process and remain civil during the election. He encouraged voters to exercise patience, tolerance, and respect for the rules governing the election.
The President commended the campaigns so far, noting that candidates have focused on key issues like improving livelihoods, promoting economic development, and contributing to national growth. He also called on the citizens of Edo State to remain peaceful and resolve any disagreements through appropriate legal channels.
Tinubu expressed his confidence in the professionalism of both INEC and security personnel, urging them to maintain neutrality and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
