Buckingham Palace confirmed to ET that Prince Harry will attend his father, King Charles III’s, coronation next month.

Meghan Markle, the 38-year-old Duke of Sussex’s wife, is not expected to accompany him. She’ll instead be staying at the couple’s home in Montecito, California, with their two children, son Archie, who will be four on the day of the coronation, May 6, and daughter Lilibet, who will be one.

According to the Palace, Harry will attend his father’s coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

Following Harry’s years-long estrangement from the royal family, there has been much speculation about whether the Sussexes will attend the historic event.

This tension culminated with the December release of Harry and Meghan’s Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, and the duke’s bestselling memoir, Spare, in January. Both projects were critical of the royal family and revealed personal information about the couple.

“King Charles very much wants Prince Harry and his grandchildren at his coronation,” a source close to the royal family told ET last month.
“Despite any issues or difficulties that have arisen as a result of what has been revealed in Harry’s book, Charles loves his son.” “He wants both of his children to be there for such a special occasion,” the source added.

“The family wants the king to be happy, and having his son travel from America at such a critical juncture in his life will make Charles happy.”

Harry recently traveled to the United Kingdom for a hearing in a lawsuit against Associated Newspapers Ltd (ANL), but he did not see his father or brother, Prince William, during the brief visit.

Meghan may not be the only royal who will be missing from the coronation. It’s unclear whether William and Kate Middleton’s youngest child, Prince Louis, will attend. For more on this story, watch the video.
