The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has given the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) an ultimatum to reimburse a sum of one hundred and ten thousand Ghana cedis that has disappeared from its accounts.
The Committee expressed disappointment with the internal auditor for the AMA, Ridwan Kokroko, for his lack of diligence in performing his duties.
According to the Auditor General’s report, six revenue collectors of the AMA neglected to deposit an amount of GH¢151,000 into the assembly’s account.
In response, AMA officials stated that some of the funds have been recovered, but GH¢110,000 remains unaccounted for.
Chairman of the committee, James Klutse Avedzi, attributed the situation to the internal auditor’s negligence, emphasizing the importance of providing documentation for the missing funds within two weeks. Failure to do so will result in the auditor being held responsible for refunding the missing amount.
“Don’t underestimate this committee’s knowledge. Your performance as an auditor is unsatisfactory. I refuse to believe that an officer is incapable, leading to the inability to retrieve the file.
“We’re giving you a two-week deadline to locate and present the file to the auditors, ensuring the GH¢110,000 has been deposited. If you fail, you’ll be required to reimburse the amount.”
