Lagos Urges Medical Guild to Hold Off on Strike as Talks Continue

The Lagos State Government is calling on its medical professionals to pause a planned warning strike, assuring them that their concerns are being taken seriously.

In a statement from the Ministry of Health, officials confirmed that issues raised by the Medical Guild—including complaints about salary deductions—are already under review.

The Medical Guild, which represents medical and dental practitioners in the state’s service, had announced a three-day warning strike set to begin on Monday, July 28, 2025. Alongside the strike notice came a 21-day ultimatum: if their demands aren’t addressed within that window, a full and indefinite walkout could follow.

Responding to the development, the state government said conversations with the Guild are ongoing and that every effort is being made to reach a fair resolution.

“As a government, we deeply appreciate the vital work of our healthcare professionals who care for over 20 million Lagosians,” the statement read. “We are committed to resolving this matter through continued engagement and open dialogue.”

The Ministry urged the Guild to reconsider its decision and give room for talks to conclude peacefully—emphasizing the impact such disruptions could have on everyday citizens.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the statement added, remains fully committed to improving the welfare of healthcare workers while maintaining a peaceful work environment in the health sector.
