Herbert Wigwe, the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, was honored for his philanthropy and unwavering commitment to the gospel at a touching Service of Songs held on Thursday.

The event, which also commemorated the lives of Wigwe’s wife, Doreen, and their son, Chizi, was held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Resurrection Parish in Lekki, Lagos.

The family tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the United States in early February, a tragedy that also claimed the life of Abimbola Ogunbanjo, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange group.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of RCCG, paid tribute to Wigwe’s legacy, highlighting his generosity and dedication to spreading the Christian faith.

Pastor Charles Pande, the Pastor in charge of Region 11 of RCCG and Head of the Blessed Family, read an excerpt of Adeboye’s condolence message during the service, offering words of comfort and encouragement to the congregation.

The service brought together friends, family, and members of the community to celebrate the lives and contributions of the Wigwe family.

Reflecting on Wigwe’s character, former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, recalled their longstanding friendship and the genuine care Wigwe showed him during his time in office.

He recounted, “Herbert never asked me for a favor throughout my eight years in office. He would call me every other month just to ask how I was doing. But two months before I left office, he insisted on knowing my plans after leaving office. He visited me diligently, and on the Thursday before he passed, he came to see me in Abuja. We spent hours discussing various matters.”

Offering solace to the grieving children, Osinbajo emphasized the importance of relationships and the acceptance of mortality. He highlighted that the manner of death is inconsequential to God, focusing instead on the spiritual realm.

Following the events in Lagos, the activities will shift to Rivers State for the Christian Wake-Keeping on Friday at Wigwe University, Isiokpo, culminating in a Combined Funeral Service on Saturday at RCCG, Lion of Judah Parish, Isiokpo, and a private interment ceremony.

The final event, the outing service, will take place on Sunday at RCCG, Lion of Judah Parish, Isiokpo.
