Due to injury concerns, Chelsea fullback Reece James won’t be playing for Gareth Southgate’s England in the FIFA 2022 world cup.

According to SkySports, it was determined the full-back has not fully recovered from the knee injury he sustained against AC Milan last month after speaking with Gareth Southgate on Tuesday.

On Thursday at 2 PM, the Three Lions coach will reveal his 26-man roster for the match, and he won’t take a chance by including the Chelsea defender.

The availability of Kyle Walker and Kalvin Philips of Manchester City, who are both key right-backs for England, isn’t fully guaranteed.

Gareth Southgate might also give Newcastle United’s Kieren Tripper, who is currently on fire for the team, a call-up.

Reece is recovering steadily, according to Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

“I just think it’s how he responds (to James’s World Cup availability),” he said.

“We don’t want to rush anything, and I’m not going to give it a deadline. That is for him, the medical professionals, and the physiotherapists.
