Saweetie announced her debut album Pretty Bitch Music nearly three years ago, but there is still no release date.
The “Best Friend” rapper opened up about the years-long delay and why she refuses to rush the creative process in a new interview with E! News.
“I’ve had a lot of interesting experiences,” she explained. “So I want to incorporate all of that into my album in the most artistic and organic way possible.”
She is, however, taking her time to perfect her music. “I feel like you don’t just put out a debut album,” she explained. “It’s not something you mess around with. I’m a Cancer, so I have a tendency to overthink things, but I think you have to be very careful with that, and I take my art very seriously.”
The Grammy-nominated rapper addressed the delay in a message to her fans last June. “Through hours of self-reflection I have realized that Pretty B.I.T.C.H music is not an album-a it’s movement. It’s a way of life. It’s a dialect. “It’s a way of life,” she explained. “We don’t rush art; we take our time!”
In addition, the Icy Girl revealed her celebrity crushes (Rihanna, Lil Nas X) and who she’s been listening to in the interview. “I like Lola Brooke and Ice Spice,” she explained. “I’ve also been watching ‘Baddies West,’ and I like Stunna Girl.”
Pretty Bitch Music has been in the works for quite some time. It was supposed to arrive in June 2021, but that date was pushed back.
“My new music is going to shock the world,” she previously told W Magazine of her debut. “I think they’re going to be surprised by everything I do from now on.”
Saweetie has been entertaining fans with music. She released her 6-track EP The Single Life in November, which included the controversial track “Don’t Say Nothin’.”
