Two ancient Egyptian sarcophagi were CT scanned at a Jerusalem hospital as part of a study to determine how artists created elaborate coffins for interring mummies.
The Israel Museum and the hospital worked together to examine the 2,500-year-old sarcophagi.
The CT scans allowed curators to examine the layers of sycamore wood, plaster, and other materials that made up the hieroglyphic-decorated caskets.
According to them, the research revealed the ancient artisans’ craftsmanship.
