President Cyril Ramaphosa has denied Panyaza Lesufi’s request for a state funeral for AKA, a popular South African rapper who was murdered last week.

AKA was one of the few famous people in the country who actively opposed xenophobic attacks.

“We want him to be buried in a secluded venue with leaders and heroes of society, and we want to provide him with security support,” it says. We felt that a person of this international stature deserved some sort of honor.”

He claimed in a press conference that the permission was granted so that the rapper could be honored at his funeral.

He asked for the state flags to be flown at half-staff and the national flag to be draped over AKA’s casket.

Nonetheless, their request was denied for unknown reasons.

AKA’s funeral will be held the following day, February 18, 2023, following a public memorial service on Friday, February 17, 2023.

One week after his murder, AKA’s funeral would be live-streamed on his social media channels.
