Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has offered advice to graduates embarking on their National Service Scheme (NSS).

In a Facebook post, Gyamfi encouraged young graduates to consider doing their national service from their parents’ homes rather than renting accommodations and adopting extravagant lifestyles.

He highlighted the financial challenges faced by many graduates, emphasizing the modest allowance provided during the NSS period, which may not support lavish living standards.

Gyamfi cautioned against the common mistake of renting expensive accommodations and furnishing them with costly electronic gadgets, which could later become financial burdens.

He urged graduates to resist the temptation of post-graduation freedom and instead focus on practical considerations during and after the NSS period.

Gyamfi advised graduates to explore job opportunities closer to their homes to minimize transportation costs and seek out conducive work environments that promote personal and professional development.

The National Service programme, a mandatory one-year service for Ghanaian citizens aged 18 and above, was established in 1973 and operates under Act 426 (1980).
