Outrage in Ibadan as Student Fatally Shot on His Way to Write Exam
A tragic scene unfolded in Ibadan on Tuesday after a young student lost his life in a police-related shooting—just as he was heading to sit for his WAEC examination.
Eyewitnesses say the incident happened along the Gbagi Market axis. Police officers were reportedly chasing a vehicle suspected to be involved in internet fraud when one of them fired a shot. The bullet, meant for the fleeing suspects, struck an innocent student instead.
He wasn’t alone—he was walking alongside his twin brother when the fatal shot hit. The teenager was rushed to Welfare Hospital, but it was too late. Doctors confirmed he was dead on arrival.
News of the boy’s death quickly sparked a wave of anger and heartbreak. Market vendors and concerned citizens gathered in protest, bringing the student’s lifeless body to the Oyo State Secretariat as a symbol of their demand for justice.
Security forces were later stationed at the entrance of the government offices to manage the growing crowd. Protesters voiced frustration over what they say is a troubling pattern of reckless police conduct and the need for immediate reform.
At the time of this report, no official word had come from either the police or state officials.
A video of the protest, shared by Oyo Affairs on 𝕏, captured the tense emotions of the moment—grief, fury, and a community demanding accountability.
