Sudan’s military and civilian political leaders have begun talks in Khartoum to bring the government-backed militia, the RSF, under army control.
This, along with putting the military under civilian control, were key demands of the civilian groups that assisted in the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir in 2019.

The talks on Sunday were part of a December agreement meant to pave the way for a return to democratic rule, which is set to be formally adopted in less than two weeks.
Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the army chief who seized power in a coup two years ago, said he wanted to end the armed forces’ support for dictatorial governments in Sudan.
