Sudan’s paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) claims to have shot down two military helicopters in retaliation for the army’s attack.
Despite the truce announced on Wednesday, the army attacked its fighters in Omdurman, near Khartoum, on Thursday morning, according to the group.
“However, the forces responded to the attack and inflicted heavy losses on the putschists in lives and equipment, including the shooting down of two helicopters,” the RSF said in a tweet.
The paramilitary group stated that it was still committed to the ceasefire.
The army has yet to respond to the RSF attack claims.
