A recent survey conducted by Global Info Analytics has unveiled the electoral preferences in the Northern Region for the upcoming 2024 general elections. According to the poll results released on Monday, December 2, 2023, John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has secured a notable lead over Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the region. Mahama garnered 55% of the votes, while Dr. Bawumia trailed with 37%.
In the third position is Alan Kyerematen, the leader of the Movement for Change, who attained 4% of the votes. Approximately 3% of the electorate remains undecided about their voting choice.
The remaining presidential contenders, including Hassan Ayariga of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), independent candidate Dr. Sam Ankrah, and Kwabena Andrews of Ghana Union Movement (GUM), collectively received less than 1% of the total votes.
The comprehensive survey covered all 18 constituencies in the Northern region, presenting a detailed breakdown of the political landscape. The results indicate that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, representing the NPP, is trailing behind John Mahama with a margin of 37% to 55%. Alan Kyerematen of the Butterfly movement secured the third position with 4%, while other candidates collectively received 1%. Additionally, 3% of the electorate are yet to finalize their voting decision.
The survey’s executive summary highlights key factors influencing voters’ choices, with 58% expressing concerns about the country’s direction. The major determinants include economic performance, jobs, education, and corruption, with 78% prioritizing the economy, 70% jobs, 61% education, and 21% corruption.
In terms of the overall direction of Ghana, 58% of voters in the Northern region believe the country is heading in the wrong direction, while 34% feel it is moving in the right direction, and 8% remain undecided.
