Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has fired a top State House official just two days after appointing him. Former intelligence chief Diwani Athumani Msuya was named State House permanent secretary on Tuesday.

Mululi Majula Mahendeka, a former State House official, took his place on Thursday. The president’s office issued no explanation in a statement announcing the changes.

Former President John Magufuli appointed Mr. Msuya as the head of Tanzania Intelligence and Security Services (TISS) in September 2019.
