Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has pledged to make tertiary education free for all individuals with disabilities if he emerges victorious in the 2024 general elections.
He announced this commitment during a discussion with religious leaders in the Western North Region as part of his ongoing nationwide tour.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that while scholarships are intended for various individuals, his administration will prioritize scholarships for people with disabilities.
“I am resolute in my approach. I believe that individuals with disabilities deserve additional support. While scholarships will be available to everyone, I intend to allocate a portion of funds to our scholarship secretariat and the GET Fund to offer free tertiary education—covering both tuition and accommodation—for all individuals with disabilities who gain admission to university, ensuring they all have access,” he explained.
The NPP flagbearer specified that the scholarship scheme will encompass both academic and residential expenses for individuals with disabilities starting from 2025.
In an earlier interaction, the Vice President expressed his conviction that he could contribute to transforming Ghana.
“I am confident that I can make a positive impact on Ghana. I believe that God utilizes anyone He chooses to change society… I have faith that something beneficial can originate from Walewale, and if it is God’s will, it will indeed emerge from Walewale,” he remarked.
He urged religious leaders to intervene and prevent politicians from jeopardizing the nation’s peace for personal political interests.
Furthermore, the Vice President highlighted that his upbringing instilled in him a deep respect for all religions.
