Professor Stephen Adei, a former Rector of GIMPA, expressed concern about the ongoing power outages across the country.
He acknowledged that while the current outages, popularly known as dumsor, are troublesome, they are not as severe as the crises experienced in the past.
Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Monday, April 22, Prof Adei shared ideas with the government on how to address the current challenges.
He emphasized the need to address any bottlenecks hindering the full utilization of existing capacity. Additionally, he advocated for a national strategic agenda, suggesting immediate import duty exemptions for solar panels and related items to promote solar energy adoption. He emphasized the long-term benefits for the country and the government.
In a related development, the Institute of Energy Security (IES) called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the Minister for Energy.
The IES cited the ongoing power outages, dumsor, as grounds for his dismissal.
Nana Amoasi VII, the Executive Director of IES, expressed disappointment with the minister’s perceived lack of action in an interview on Eyewitness News on Monday.
He questioned the minister’s understanding of the energy situation and the purpose of his role in addressing such a critical issue.
