According to Reuters, the Gambia has hired a US law firm to investigate legal action after a government-funded inquiry determined that tainted medicine supplied from India was “very likely” to have killed at least 70 children.
Justice Minister Dawda Jallow did not inform the news agency whose entity would be sued, nor did he give the name of the law firm employed.
According to Reuters, the cough syrup’s manufacturer, Maiden Pharmaceuticals, has denied any wrongdoing.
The Indian government claims that when the drugs were tested, no poisons were discovered.
Nonetheless, WHO investigations revealed that the cough syrups included two fatal poisons commonly found in brake fluid.
