Richard Ahiagbah, the Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has voiced his confidence in the construction of the National Cathedral, emphasizing its significance for Ghana. He dismissed claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the project is misplaced.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Mr. Ahiagbah highlighted the need for more resources to complete the project, emphasizing that it is a work in progress. He explained that every significant project requires laying foundations before actual construction begins, and the cathedral project is no exception.
He expressed his unwavering commitment to seeing the project through, emphasizing the noble intention behind building a national cathedral for the country. Mr. Ahiagbah urged people to support the project, emphasizing the importance of not underestimating the value of such endeavors.
The original commissioning date for the cathedral, as stated by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in the 2021 budget statement, was March 6. However, the project has faced criticism, especially from minority MPs who are concerned about its expenditure.
Despite being denied access to the construction site, Minority MPs negotiated with security personnel to hold a press conference at the entrance, where they intended to express their dissatisfaction with the ongoing project and its associated costs.
