Juan Vicente Perez Mora, the world’s oldest man, has passed away at the remarkable age of 114. A native of Venezuela, Mora was officially recognized by Guinness World Records in 2022 as the oldest living man. His death occurred on Tuesday.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced Mora’s passing on the social media platform X, stating, “Juan Vicente Perez Mora has transcended into eternity at 114 years of age.”

Mora’s remarkable longevity was acknowledged by Guinness on February 4, 2022, when he was 112 years and 253 days old. He was a father to 11 children and, as of 2022, boasted 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Born in El Cobre, a town in the Andean state of Tachira, on May 27, 1909, Mora was the ninth child among ten siblings. He began working in agriculture alongside his father and brothers at the age of five, aiding in the harvesting of sugar cane and coffee, as noted in a Guinness statement from 2022. Despite his agricultural pursuits, Mora also served as a sheriff, mediating land and family disputes.
