The Nigerian football team, the Super Eagles, experienced a 1-1 draw in their debut match of the 2023 African Cup of Nations against Equatorial Guinea in Ivory Coast on Sunday.
Equatorial Guinea took the lead in the 37th minute with a well-placed shot by Iban Salvador, leaving the Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, motionless.
Nigeria quickly responded after the kickoff, with Victor Osimhen heading an equalizing goal before the break.
Despite numerous opportunities, Nigeria was unable to secure the winning goal. Despite Osimhen scoring his first AFCON goal in his debut appearance, he missed a significant chance in the 75th minute.
In Group A, Nigeria will face challenges from Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau later in the tournament.
