The Weeknd may be coming to the end of an era, but he’s doing so on his own terms. The Platinum recording artist revealed in a new interview with W Magazine published yesterday (May 8) that he is currently in a transitional phase and may retire his beloved stage name in the near future.

He started by reflecting on his devotion to his craft. “I’ve never missed a concert as The Weeknd.” “I’ve performed while sick,” he explained. “I’ll die on that stage.”

He then discussed his recent change of heart. “Right now, I’m on a cathartic path,” the singer explained. “I’m getting to the point and time where I’m ready to close the Weeknd chapter.” I’ll continue to make music, perhaps as Abel, perhaps as The Weeknd. But I still want to assassinate The Weeknd. And I intend to do so. Eventually. I’m definitely attempting to shed that skin and rebirth.”

The Toronto megastar concluded by assuring that nothing will be left unsaid. “The album I’m working on now will most likely be my last as The Weeknd.” This is something I need to do. “I’ve said everything I can say as The Weeknd,” he told the outlet.

The “True Colors” singer revealed his Dawn FM project at the start of 2022. Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Jim Carrey all made appearances on the album. It also housed chart-topping singles such as “Blinding Lights” and “Save Your Tears.”

In related news, The Weeknd made headlines in April when he appeared at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. He performed six songs with producer Metro Boomin during his set. Aside from that, he has been filming “The Idol,” his upcoming series that will premiere on Max on June 4th.
