Tina Turner and her husband, Erwin Bach, expanded their real estate empire just two years before Tina Turner died. The power couple, who married in July 2013, made headlines in January 2022 with their jaw-dropping $76 million purchase of a sprawling waterfront estate in Zürich, Switzerland.

In an interview with the local newspaper Handelszeitung, Bach, a German native, expressed their fondness for Switzerland. He revealed that their decision to buy more property in the European country was influenced by their newly acquired Swiss citizenship. This was a calculated move, as nonresidents are not permitted to own land in Switzerland.

“[We] feel very comfortable in Switzerland,” Bach exclaimed, emphasizing their intention to use the newly purchased estate as a luxurious “weekend retreat in the immediate vicinity.” This magnificent five-acre property features an impressive array of amenities. The estate embodies luxury and leisure with ten distinct structures, including a private pond, stream, swimming pool, and boat deck.

This new addition to the couple’s already impressive portfolio includes another grand estate in Küsnacht, where Turner tragically died at the age of 83. A representative confirmed the news, revealing that the “Proud Mary” singer died after a long battle with an unspecified illness. The announcement, shared on Turner’s Instagram account, was met with an outpouring of grief from her fans worldwide.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner,” the post said. “With her music and boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans worldwide and inspired tomorrow’s stars.” Today, we say farewell to a dear friend who has left us her greatest work: her music. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family. Tina, we will miss you so much.”

A legendary journey abroad and a lasting musical legacy

Prior to her untimely death, the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll had been living in Europe for many years, owing to both her romantic relationship with Bach, which began in 1986, and the popularity of her music in international markets. Turner even went so far as to renounce her US citizenship in 2013 in order to fully embrace her life abroad.

“I left America because my success was in another country and my boyfriend was in another country,” Turner admitted candidly in a 1997 interview with the late Larry King. “Basically, Europe has been very supportive of my music.”

Turner gracefully retreated from the spotlight over the years, finally saying goodbye to the stage in 2009 after completing her monumental 50th-anniversary tour, which remains one of the highest-grossing musical journeys of all time. Despite her departure from the public eye, Turner’s legacy and indomitable spirit live on, leaving a void in the music industry that cannot be filled.
