Tina Turner, who died on May 24 at the age of 83, told Cher and Oprah Winfrey that she was prepared for her death.
Cher revealed that Turner had been battling illness for a long time and had shown incredible strength throughout.
“She fought this sickness for such a long time, and she was as strong as you would expect,” Cher said on MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber.”
“But I know at the end, she told me once, ‘I’m really ready.'” I simply don’t want to put up with this any longer.’
Not the only time
Turner’s close friend Oprah Winfrey revealed in a separate interview on CBS Mornings that the iconic “Proud Mary” singer had expressed similar sentiments.
“I was certainly aware that she was ill, but I had seen her in 2019 and gone to visit her in the hospital, and she had told me then that she was actually ready to go, meaning, ready to leave the planet,” Oprah said.
“I expected that to be the last time I saw her.”
Turner’s family announced her death on Wednesday after a lengthy illness. Her representative revealed the following day that the legendary musician died of natural causes.
Although Cher did not reveal the nature of Turner’s illness, she did mention the presence of a dialysis machine at the singer’s home in Switzerland. Dialysis is a common treatment for people with advanced kidney disease.
