Bola Tinubu’s campaign team issued a statement after preliminary results showed that he had been defeated by Peter Obi in Lagos, the state with the most registered voters.

He urged Lagos residents to remain calm and to “avoid any act that could lead to the breakdown of law and order,” according to the statement.

Tinubu believed that “the beauty of democracy is that people have the right to vote for the candidate of their choice,” and that “as a democrat, he is bound to accept the outcome of any election, whether favorable or unfavorable,” according to the statement.
