President Tinubu Arrives in Katsina for Buhari’s Final Farewell
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Katsina to pay his last respects to former President Muhammadu Buhari, whose burial is set to take place today in his hometown of Daura.
First Lady Remi Tinubu had earlier touched down in Daura ahead of the state funeral, joining a host of dignitaries, senior government officials, and well-wishers who have gathered to honor the late leader.
Buhari’s body is expected to arrive in Katsina by midday from London aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft. His burial will follow in the afternoon, in line with Islamic customs.
The former president passed away in the United Kingdom on Sunday at around 4:30 p.m., after a period of illness. He was 82.
Buhari leaves behind a complex legacy, having first led the country as a military ruler from 1983 to 1985, and later returning as a democratically elected president, serving from 2015 to 2023.
To honor his memory and stature, the Federal Government declared a national public holiday and announced the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to oversee the burial proceedings. The committee is being chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and is working closely with the Katsina State Government and the Buhari family.
The atmosphere in Daura is heavy with reflection, as the nation prepares to bid farewell to one of its most enduring political figures.
