President Tinubu in High-Level Security Briefing Ahead of Trip to Rome

Behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu is meeting with the nation’s top security leaders. Those in attendance include the heads of the armed forces and the police chief.

Among them are General Christopher Musa, who leads the Defence Staff; Army Chief Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede; Air Force Chief Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar; and the Naval Chief, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.

Though the specifics haven’t been shared publicly, the meeting is believed to center around the recent wave of violence affecting several regions, especially the northern part of the country. Security agencies have been stretched thin, responding to rising threats from armed groups targeting both communities and military units.

With concerns mounting over the unrest, the government is under growing pressure to find lasting solutions.

This gathering comes just before President Tinubu heads to Rome on Saturday. He’s expected to attend the official mass welcoming Pope Leo XIV, the newly elected spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

According to Bayo Onanuga, who serves as the President’s adviser on information and strategy, Tinubu will be part of an international group of dignitaries and senior clergy attending the occasion.

Joining him on the trip are Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Archbishop Lucius Ugorji of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference; Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Abuja; Archbishop Alfred Martins of Lagos; and Bishop Matthew Kukah of Sokoto.
