President Bola Tinubu is preparing to announce measures to reduce the cost of governance, following the recent appointment and reassignment of new ministers to his cabinet.

In an interview on ARISE TV, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed that despite adding seven new ministers, the administration is committed to cutting down government expenses.

Onanuga shared that Nigerians can expect an announcement today detailing the government’s efforts to lower these costs. He emphasized that the cuts will start with the ministers, signaling the administration’s commitment to reducing waste and increasing efficiency in governance.

“By tomorrow, the President will be making some significant announcements regarding cuts in government expenses, beginning with the ministers,” Onanuga stated. “I don’t want to reveal too much ahead of time, but it’s going to be a major step to show that the government is serious about managing resources better.”

He also highlighted that while Tinubu’s administration has brought in new hands to drive the government’s agenda, it’s not about having a large cabinet but about having competent individuals. “We need capable hands to address the pressing issues of the country. The size doesn’t matter as much as the competence, and we are focused on ensuring that the government runs efficiently and effectively.”

These upcoming changes are expected to reflect the administration’s broader strategy to streamline operations and promote fiscal responsibility.
