Tom Holland, known for his role as Spider-Man, revealed that he plans to take a year off from his career following the completion of the Apple+ TV series “The Crowded Room.” In an interview with Extra, Holland discussed his experience as both an actor and executive producer on the psychological drama, acknowledging that it was a demanding endeavor.
During the interview, the British actor, aged 27, expressed that the show pushed him to explore unfamiliar emotions and also added the pressures of being involved in the production process. He admitted that the series “did break” him and led to his decision to take a break from his work. Holland took some time off by traveling to Mexico for a week and enjoying a beach getaway.
“The Crowded Room,” described by Apple, is set in 1979 New York City and revolves around the character of Danny Sullivan, portrayed by Holland. Sullivan is arrested for a shocking crime, and an investigator attempts to unravel the mystery. The character is loosely based on Billy Milligan, the first person to successfully use multiple personality disorder as a defense in court. The 10-episode series is set to premiere on Friday.
Holland shared that he was initially apprehensive about taking on the challenging role but ultimately accepted it because of the fear it evoked in him. He also mentioned in a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly that the project played a part in his decision to maintain sobriety for over a year. Holland has been vocal about mental health in the past and believes that viewers will develop more empathy and understanding toward those facing mental health issues through this series.
