In the criminal assault case in which it is alleged that the Toronto rapper shot Megan Thee Stallion, jury selection began on Monday. As the trial began, the court made the decision to lift Lanez’s home arrest, according to Rolling Stone.

“At this time, I’ll end the house arrest. The fundamental reason is that having an unavailable client during trial makes things harder. Judge David Herriford of the Los Angeles County Superior Court declared, “I’m doing this mostly for the element of trial preparation.

After an alleged incident with August Alsina in Chicago in September, the “Say It” rapper was placed under house arrest, which was enforced since October.

Additionally, the judge ruled that Lanez could take off his GPS ankle monitor, but his $350,000 bond would remain in place. After his ankle monitor was disconnected, Lanez broadcast live on Instagram. He exclaimed, “Get it out of here!”

According to the prosecution, Lanez previously tried to intimidate witnesses in the case. Despite Megan told authorities that Lanez gave her hush money after the shooting, Lanez’s attorney, George G. Mgdesyan, insisted that his client never tried to bribe or coerce anyone.

“She claims that because he was on probation and didn’t want to get caught, my client encouraged her to lie and promised her money. Mgdesyan contended that his client had never been placed on probation.

The attorney also disclosed to the court that Corey Gamble, the boyfriend of Kylie Jenner and Kris Jenner, was a witness for the defense. Both attended the pool party at Jenner’s house that took place before the shooting on July 12, 2020. Jenner’s testimony, according to Mgdesyan, could provide context for “how this occurrence happened.”

Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was charged in October 2020 with two felonies: carrying a concealed, loaded, and unregistered firearm in a vehicle and assault with a semiautomatic weapon.

According to The Shade Room, Lanez was charged with a new felony on Monday for discharge of a firearm with gross negligence with the intent to cause bodily harm. The maximum sentence for the charge is six years in prison.

If found guilty as charged, he already faces a maximum prison term of 22 years and 8 months.
