Judge David V. Herriford has rejected Tory Lanez’s request for bail, which means he will continue to appeal his felony conviction from behind bars. The “Hurts Me” singer was found guilty in August for his involvement in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

According to Rolling Stone, the court denied the Canadian artist’s bail for three main reasons. Firstly, the seriousness of the violent crime. Secondly, his documented history of disregarding court orders. And finally, the potential risk of deportation, as he is not a U.S. citizen.

Tory Lanez’s newly appointed attorney, Crystal A. Morgan, pointed out her client’s strong ties to the U.S., including the presence of his child and spouse in Los Angeles. She emphasized his commitment to complying with legal obligations and highlighted his impeccable record of attending court hearings during previous bail periods. Morgan also noted that he had not violated any ankle monitor regulations during his time on house arrest.

“I think these are all very strong ties to the community,” she stated. In a previous appeal filed last month, the defense argued that Tory Lanez posed no threat to the public, describing the shooting as an “isolated incident that occurred while he was intoxicated.”

In May, Megan shared her healing journey in an interview with Elle. She expressed, “As I look back on the past three years, I see myself as a survivor because I have truly managed to overcome the unimaginable. It’s not just about surviving being shot by someone I trusted and considered a close friend, but also about rising above the public humiliation that person subjected me to, tarnishing my name and reputation for the whole world to witness.”

On a more positive note, it appears that the Texas native is gradually finding her way back to a place where she feels comfortable releasing music again. On September 8, she teamed up with her former collaborator Cardi B for “Bongos,” which marked her first music release of 2023.
