Deadly Attack on Displaced Camp in Democratic Republic of Congo Leaves Many Dead

Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have reported a tragic incident, revealing that a camp for the displaced was targeted by an armed group, resulting in the loss of at least 40 lives.

A local ethnic leader from the Ituri province in the eastern region expressed concerns that the death toll may escalate. This is due to the extensive burning of huts within the camp, suggesting the possibility of more bodies hidden within the charred remnants.

The attack, which occurred on Monday, has been attributed to the Codeco militia. The group is primarily composed of members from the Lendu ethnic group, known for their involvement in a long-standing conflict with Hema pastoralists.

Additionally, the Codeco militia has been held responsible for another assault on Saturday, claiming the lives of seven individuals.
