Tragedy struck in western Ghana on Saturday as four individuals lost their lives, and several others remain unaccounted for following a devastating explosion at a granite quarry. This unfortunate incident unfolded during the night shift at the quarry, which is operated by a Chinese company in the Shama district.

The exact cause of this explosion remains shrouded in uncertainty, but its impact was undeniable. It not only led to the destruction of structures near the quarry but also sent shockwaves through neighboring villages, leaving residents shaken.

In response to this dire situation, dedicated personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service have swiftly mobilized to the site, tirelessly working to assist in rescue efforts.

This incident serves as a somber reminder of the inherent risks associated with mining and transportation of explosives. Just a few months ago in January, a tragic accident occurred in southwestern Ghana when a truck carrying explosives destined for a gold mine collided with a motorcycle, resulting in a catastrophic blast that claimed the lives of 14 individuals.

Our hearts go out to the victims and their families affected by these unfortunate events, as we hope for the safe rescue of those still missing in the wake of the quarry explosion.
