Today, the Ministry of Transport is set to host a delegation from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) to discuss new transport fares.

The Concerned Drivers Association and the Transport Operators of Ghana have announced their intention to raise transport fares starting from Saturday, April 13.

In an interview with Citi FM, the Public Relations Officer for the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana confirmed their proposal for a 20% fare increase, stating their unwavering stance even as GPRTU engages with the government.

“We are meeting with the ministry but it won’t change anything. We will still take the 20%,” Mr. Agboado emphasized, noting that several regions, including parts of Greater Accra, have already begun implementing the 20% increase.

The decision comes amid the lack of government intervention to reduce petrol prices, vehicle spare parts, and lubricants despite ongoing economic challenges.

The unions have proposed a 20% increase for intercity or long journey transport, a 15% increase for taxi transport, and an adjustment from GH¢10.00 to GH¢15.00 for short distance taxi hire services.

In light of these developments, they urge the public to take note of the fare adjustments and cooperate with transport operators.
