Since taking over for Jon Stewart in 2015, the 38-year-old has hosted the satirical news and chat program.
He stated that the precise timeframe of his departure will be revealed later and that, in the meanwhile, he would continue to serve as host.
Before migrating to the US in 2011, Noah started his career in his native South Africa, where he also hosted a late-night talk show and released a number of stand-up specials.
He was still mostly unknown when he was selected to take over the Daily Show on the Comedy Central network, but he has since established himself as a star on a global scale and won a number of television accolades.
He expressed gratitude to the cast and the show’s devoted viewers for “an extraordinary seven years,” adding, “It’s been wild, truly wild.”
“I recall when we initially began… So many people didn’t think we could succeed, he remarked. “It was a reckless bet to make to choose me to be the host. This random African still seems like a weird choice in my opinion.
“I just [find]myself overwhelmed with thanks for the trip. It’s been very incredible. I never anticipated that to happen.
After all that has transpired during his tenure as the show’s host, such as Donald Trump’s election as president and the Covid epidemic, he claimed that he had made up his mind to leave. “Time is up but in the most beautiful way”.
“I’ve loved hosting this show, it’s been one of my greatest challenges, it’s been one of my greatest joys. But after seven years, I feel like it’s time,” he said.
“I realized there’s another part of my life that I want to carry on exploring. I miss learning other languages, I miss going to other countries and putting on shows. I miss just being everywhere and doing everything.
“I’m really grateful to a network who believed in this random comedian nobody knew on this side of the world.
“I never dreamed that I would be here. I sort of felt like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I came in for a tour of what the previous show was, and then the next thing I know I was handed the keys.
“All I can say is thank you very much,” he said.
The Grammy Awards were hosted by Noah twice in a row while he was the host of the Daily Show, and he also welcomed celebrities like Japanese Breakfast, Margo Price, Vince Staples, Solange, and many more to the show.
The breakup of Desus & Mero, James Corden’s impending departure from The Late Late Show, Lilly Singh’s departure from A Little Late, and Samantha Bee’s departure from Full Frontal (although Bee’s series was canceled) all make up the most recent late-night television hosts to leave a show. Noah is the most recent example of this.
