British boxer Tyson Fury has shared his thoughts on Anthony Joshua’s unexpected knockout defeat to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September at Wembley. Joshua, a former two-time champion and favorite going into the match, was stopped by Dubois in the fifth round, marking a tough fourth loss in his career and halting his goal to reclaim a world title.
Dubois displayed exceptional skill, knocking Joshua down multiple times before landing a decisive right hand in front of a crowd of 98,000 fans. Now, according to promoter Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s next fight could either be a rematch with Dubois or a much-anticipated matchup against Fury.
In a Sky News interview, Fury, who’s gearing up to face unified champion Oleksandr Usyk on December 21, expressed empathy for Joshua. “I feel for him right now, especially after such a tough fight,” Fury said, encouraging Joshua to take time to regroup.
Reflecting on the impact of Joshua’s loss, Fury added, “It’s tough seeing a fighter with so much potential face a setback like this. I felt a sense of sadness watching him go through that.” Despite Joshua’s recent defeats, Fury is open to a fight with him, saying, “It would still be an exciting match for fans, and that’s what counts.”
For now, Fury’s focus is on his next challenge with Usyk, hoping for a potential trilogy. “Three trilogies in heavyweight history—that would be something special,” he shared.
