A Ugandan national army soldier who was guarding a government minister was shot and killed.

On Tuesday morning, retired Col Charles Okello Engola, the deputy minister of labor, was shot at his home in Kampala.

It is unclear whether the soldier and his superior had a disagreement.

According to some witnesses, the soldier walked around the neighborhood shooting in the air.

Minutes later, the soldier, who has yet to be identified, shot himself dead.

According to reports, several people were injured in the incident.

Locals gathered at the scene in shock, according to social media videos.

Colonel Engola previously served as a deputy defense minister.
