Usher played a cruel April Fools joke on the Dreamville Fest audience.

On Saturday night, during his headlining set at J. Cole’s festival in Raleigh, North Carolina, the R&B superstar revealed to fans that he was about to bring out a surprise guest, none other than Beyoncé.

“I’m not sure if you guys heard some of the interviews I did before we decided to do this show, but I promised you a special surprise tonight, ladies and gentlemen,” he began.

“Would you like to know what that surprise is?” Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, join your hands for the one and only, Beyoncé,” he said, as the stunned audience roared with delight.

As the audience waited with bated breath, he pretended to welcome his special guest from backstage. But it all came to an end when he reminded them what day it was. “April Fools!” exclaimed Usher, obviously pleased with his joke.

While Queen Bey was not present, Usher later brought out a special guest when City Girls joined him on stage to perform their collaboration “Good Love.”

Day 1 of Dreamville Fest also included performances by Lil Durk, Ari Lennox, Sean Paul, and others. J. Cole and Drake will perform tonight, along with Summer Walker, Burna Boy, and GloRilla.
