Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived at Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, Saudi Arabia. Upon landing, he was received by Abdulmohsen Bin Nayef Bin Hamed, the Deputy Governor of the Madinah Region, along with Nigerian diplomatic officials, including Consulate General of Jeddah, Ambassador Mu’azzam Nayaya.
The Vice President’s visit is focused on religious duties, as he plans to visit the Holy Mosque of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and other key holy sites. He will also travel to Mecca to perform the Lesser Hajj (Umrah).
On December 20, 2024, Shettima is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Jeddah. The discussions will center on co-financing arrangements for the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ Phase II) and enhancing coordination of IsDB projects in Nigeria, aiming to bolster agricultural and economic development in the country.
Naija News reported that Shettima traveled from Dubai to Saudi Arabia after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the commissioning of a $315 million oil production and storage facility owned by Oriental Energy Limited (OERL). He was seen off at the airport by OERL’s Executive Chairman, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, and Executive Vice Chairman, Engr. Goni M. Sheikh, among others.
Following his engagements in Dubai, the Vice President is set to perform the Lesser Hajj (Umrah) in Madinah and Makkah from December 16 to December 19, 2024. Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, accompanied him on this trip.
