Angela Bassett was a heavy favorite to win her first Oscar on Sunday night, but Jamie Lee Curtis took the honor instead at the 95th Academy Awards.
“I can’t believe Angela Bassett was passed over for an Oscar,” one fan tweeted, adding, “Angela Bassett not standing up for Jamie Lee Curtis is kinda shady.” One fan defended Bassett’s reaction, writing, “Angela Bassett could have clapped for the winner, regardless of who won the Oscar. To simply sit and not clap because you did not win.”

The Everything Everywhere All At Once actress beats out Bassett
Curtis, who won for her performance in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, thanked her fans in her acceptance speech. “To all of you who have supported my genre films over the years, the thousands and hundreds of thousands of you, we just won an Oscar together,” she said.
Bassett, who portrayed Queen Ramonda in Black Panther, was Marvel’s first Oscar nominee. She was nominated for the award for her role in What’s Love Got to Do With It almost 30 years ago.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” Bassett said ahead of the ceremony. “I’m here with my family, and we’re all just happy to be here.”
