Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, has reaffirmed that his administration is not “sleeping on the job” despite the nation’s debilitating power outages.

Three ministers, according to Mr. Ramaphosa, are working to resolve the crisis, including restructuring the state-owned power company, Eskom, in response to questions from the legislature.

“We are not sleeping on the job, and we are hoping that all these efforts will lead to a solution that the people of South Africa want to see,” he declared.

The worst electricity crisis to ever affect South Africa forces many homes and businesses to go without power for longer than 10 hours per day.
The power crisis has also affected the currency market – the South African rand hit a three-year low against the US dollar on Thursday.
