In a recent revelation that surprised many in the Ghanaian music scene, highlife icon Nana Acheampong shed light on the true reasons behind the split between himself and his former music partner, Daddy Lumba, three decades ago.
According to Acheampong, the celebrated Ghanaian music duo, the Lumba Brothers, parted ways not due to any discord but to explore their potential as solo artists. During a May 4, 2024, interview on United Showbiz, Acheampong clarified that while they began together and received acclaim, logistical challenges arose when Daddy Lumba relocated to a different city while they were in Germany, making collaboration difficult.
Consequently, they made the decision to focus on their individual music careers. “We kicked off our journey on a high note, receiving great acclaim. However, the physical distance created hurdles in our collaborative efforts, impacting our productivity,” Acheampong explained. “Recognizing our individual potential, we mutually agreed to pursue our solo paths.”
This choice proved fruitful for both artists, with each releasing approximately 30 albums, showcasing their prowess as solo performers. Acheampong emphasized that there was no animosity between them; they continue to support each other and have made significant contributions to Ghana’s music landscape.
“I have released around 30 albums independently, and he has done the same. Together, we’ve contributed approximately 60 albums across various genres, serving our nation well,” Acheampong shared with MzGee, the show’s host. “There’s no rift between us. You can reach out to him, and he’ll confirm what I’ve said. We remain in good terms.”
Over the years, both Nana Acheampong and Daddy Lumba, collectively as the Lumba Brothers and individually, have produced remarkable music, and fans can anticipate a continuous stream of quality compositions from them.
