“We’re still hopeful,” says a 22-year-old Nigerian student in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, who has been waiting for a bus to leave the city since 06:00 (04:00 GMT).
Temperatures in the midday heat can reach 43 degrees Celsius (109 degrees Fahrenheit), and drinking water is scarce; however, she claims that many fellow Nigerians are waiting outside in the hot sun to ensure they do not miss their chance to return home.

The head of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NDC) told the BBC’s Focus on Africa program on Monday night that evacuations would take place on Tuesday.
When asked why Nigerian authorities waited so long to announce evacuation plans, the NDC stated that they needed permission from both military factions for safe passage.
