American gospel artist Kirk Franklin revealed that he stopped speaking to his biological mother at the age of 32 due to a troubling incident involving her new husband. Franklin shared this personal story during his appearance on the “Funky Friday” podcast.

He recounted that the conflict arose while his family was working to support his sister, who had recently been released from prison and was struggling with drug addiction. As Franklin, who was then 32, tried to help her, a family intervention was planned to offer support.

During the intervention, his mother arrived with her new husband. The situation escalated when her husband made an insensitive remark, telling Franklin that he should call his mother more often. Franklin, feeling hurt and disrespected, confronted him, stating that as the child, he should not be judged by someone who wasn’t part of the family dynamics.

The argument intensified when Franklin’s mother chose to leave the house with her new husband, a decision that deeply wounded Franklin. He expressed his frustration, saying, “She walked out with him, and it felt like she chose him over her own children.”

Franklin concluded that this moment was pivotal for him, as he vowed never to allow himself to be treated this way again.
